Some Native American cultures use a secret, sacred name. My real name is Erica Fehrman, and my secret name is Q–it’s what my family calls me. SidewaysQ is also a little bit of turning your head sideways and looking at the world from a different angle. People matter to me and stories are important to who we are–how we got here, where we’re going, what we leave behind.

I’m in love with and married to my best friend who I’ve known since we were 12 years old. We have two young, fired up boys, a black dog of uncertain origin who’s named after Janis Joplin, and we live in the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. I love Jesus. I also love to travel, talk to people about whatever matters, take drives and find old houses and barns, and will read just about anything from classics to the back of a cereal box.

SidewaysQ has four parts.

Stories about people, and stories about people who inspire people.

If you’d like to tell me your story, or if you’d like to share about someone who has inspired you, email Erica(at)SidewaysQ(dot)com.

Virtual Jetplane

An array of world topics. I’m willing to travel if you’re willing to take me there, but people and making the world a better place while we have it must be the focus.

Musings about what’s on my heart and mind, but I follow my heart first.

One evening in high school I fell asleep early, and then a friend called and my mom woke me up in the middle of a vividly colored dream of I Am the Walrus by The Beatles. This Kukukuchu category is whatever I feel like posting. It doesn’t have to make sense to be wonderful.

Professional Background

I have a solid education in English literature, writing, and art from the University of Evansville. My work experience is wide and includes children’s book editing at PI Kids, teaching English, and even designing PEZ dispensers. Seriously! I worked as a marketing manager for PEZ Candy once upon a time, and through that process got to put my hand to the integration of marketing, branding, designing, and everything from leading graphic design direction to coordinating manufacturing overseas.

Additionally, I edited and led the Local blogger section of for 6 years, worked with evo Conference for 3 years, and helped Click Retreat get off its feet at its first retreat in 2013.

I love trying new things and have lived in Indiana, Chicago, Connecticut, Utah, Kentucky, and England. Favorite activities include hiking, experiencing nature, eating ethnic food, shopping in local markets, anything British, and, once in real life and often in my dreams, hang gliding.

Getting From Here To There

Once I lost out on a media opportunity because someone in California thought that traveling from Kentucky meant I’d need to take a raft down the Mississippi and then a wagon train across the country. In reality, I live a mere hour from the Cincinnati and Louisville International airports.

Interested in talking with me? Sure thing. Just email me at erica(dot)fehrman(at)gmail(dot)com.

See something you like on I love that! Contact me if you’d like to use something and we can play nicely together.
